TC-99-10 Reef Restoration/Marine Debris Survey and Removal
reefcol.jpg (22937 bytes)

During the reef restoration cruise the reef is surveyed for abandoned fishing nets that drift in from all over the North Pacific. When net is found, it is marked by buoys so that it can be located and removed by the Coast Guard and NOAA divers. Some net also washes up on the beaches of the sandy islands of these atolls. Lots of muscle is needed to get it off the beach and into the boats.
