All these pictures were taken on the islands of Pearl and Hermes Atoll. Starting in the upper left and working clockwise,- Two endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals swim along the beach on North Island.- At the end of North Island, a large flock of terns lay resting with two monk seals resting amongst them- A booby stands by and watches as our team starts removing a net that washed ashore on the beach.- A net left on the beach can be an entanglement menace to the animals that use that beach. We work to remove the nets where possible to reduce this hazard.- One of our scientists suffers a large dose of embarrassment after losing his balance and falling off the boat. - Unloading the NMFS field camp off SE Island on Pearl and Hermes Atoll. Everything brought by the scientists to the camp is removed as the camp is broken. This cruise we will break 3 other camps like this (Kure, Laysan and Lisianski). |
