April 26 we departed for the waters immediately off Honolulu and demonstrated various drills for the inspectors. In addition to 'fire' and 'abandon-ship' drills, the inspectors tossed a float over the side to simulate a 'Man-Over-Board' scenario. In less than 5 minutes, the ship was stopped and the crew had lowered our "rescue boat" over the side and were roaring off in the direction the lookouts were pointing to rescue the "victim". The ship holds regular drills during our cruises in preparation for such emergencies. |
