TC-99-07 Lobster Cruise June 6-July 4, 1999
Lobster eggs
In Hawaii, lobsters lay eggs year around, though peak egg laying occurs in summer (June to August). The female attaches her eggs to the pleopods (swimmerets) under her tail and carries them for the next month or so until they hatch. As can be seen in these pictures, one female can carry thousands of eggs. When first laid, the eggs are a bright yellow/orange color. As they mature and near hatching, the larvae develops pigmentation and the eggs become more brown on color (shown in the upper right of the picture).
