After the larvae lobster's planktonic (free drifting) stages, the larvae molts into what is called the transitional stage and settles down to the ocean bottom. As can be seen of this slipper lobster, the transitional stage is a small, clear colored form of the adult. Through the next series of molts, the juvenile develops the size and coloration of the adult. |
