Laysan island ducks. An endangered species.
The Laysan Duck is indigenous to Laysan Island and presently found no where else in the world. Often seen around the hypersaline (very high salt content) lake in the center of the island, the ducks can be seen feeding on the dense aggregations of sand flies that live there. In this picture, the Laysan Ducks are foraging in vines of native morning glory at the edge of the lake.
