replacing fairings on the starboard shaft. You can also see the
starboard
propeller or screw, covered in plastic sheathing to protect it.
The CROMWELL
has two, three bladed, controllable pitch propellers, 5.5 feet in
diameter.
Controllable pitch propellers always turn at the same speed and
in the same
direction. We control our speed and whether we are going ahead or
astern by
changing the angle that the blades meet the water (this angle is
called the
'pitch').
