The CTD with the current profiler attached has just been lowered over the side by the deck hand in the upper middle of the picture. He has the difficult job of controlling the winch and the J frame and keeping the CTD from swinging around and damaging expensive equipment or hurting people. The J frame which is the large white frame that the CTD is hanging from is used to pick equipment up off the deck and lower it over the side.
