Kingman Reef (6° 24' N - 162° 24' W)  This island is located about halfway between Hawaii and American Samoa.  The lagoon within the reef was used as a halfway station for flights from Hawaii to Samoa by Pan American Airways flying boats in 1937-1938.   The reef is often awash and presents a navigation hazard to boaters.
